The inflation rate in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 0.2% in March 2024 compared to the same month in 2023 for the base year 2018, according to data on consumer price index numbers in the Sultanate of Oman issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI.

The data indicated an increase in the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages groups by 3.4%, miscellaneous goods and services by 2.9%, culture, and entertainment by 0.4%, tobacco by 2.4%, and the clothing and footwear group by 0.1%.

On the other hand, the prices of the transportation groups decreased by 4.6%, the restaurants and hotels group by 0.1%, furniture, fixtures and household equipment, and regular home maintenance by 0.3%, communications by 0.3%, and education by 0.4%, while the prices of the remaining groups remained stable.

In the food and non-alcoholic beverages group, the prices of fruits increased by 0.7%, milk, cheese, and eggs by 3.9%, sugar, jam, honey, and sweets by 1.7%, oils and fats by 2%, bread and cereals by 1.2%, food items by 3.6%, and vegetables by 16.2%, meat by 2.3% and fish by 2.8%.

North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded the highest rate of increase in inflation at the end of March 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, as the index rose by 1.3%. The inflation rate also rose by 1.1% in Al Wusta Governorate and by 1% in North Al Batinah Governorate. The rate increased by 0.8% in the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah, by 0.6% in each of the Governorates of South Al Batinah, Musandam, and Al Dhahirah, and by 0.4% in each of the Governorates of Al Buraimi and Dhofar, while the rate decreased by 0.4% in the Governorate of Muscat and by 0.3% in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah.
