The statistics issued by NCSI indicated a decrease in the number of fixed-line subscriptions by the end of April 2022 in the Sultanate.
The total number of mobile phone subscriptions (postpaid and prepaid) in Oman by end of April 2022 increased by 1.7% compared to the same period in 2021. Currently, the number of mobile phone subscribers has reached 6,136,665.
The statistics were issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information indicating that postpaid mobile phone subscriptions increased by 24.3% at the end of April 2022, reaching 1,386,640 subscriptions compared to the same period last year.
The statistics showed a decrease in the number of paid mobile phone subscriptions by 3.4% to 4,750,257. Among these, 3,632,105 were from operators, and 1,117,920 were from the resale.
The number of active mobile broadband subscriptions increased by 0.5% at the end of April 2022 compared to April of the year 2021, and subscriptions to fixed internet service recorded a slight increase at the end of April 2022 by 1.2% to reach 520,842 subscriptions, compared to the same period in 2021.
The total fixed broadband subscriptions (more than 256 kbps) reached 518,804 by the end of April 2022, with a slight increase of 1.2 compared to April 2021, while the number of low-speed Internet subscriptions (less than 256 kbps) which includes dial-up and some leased Internet lines at a rate of 0.4, up to 2,388 subscriptions.
The statistics indicated a decrease in the number of fixed-line subscriptions by the end of April 2022 by 2.6% to 578,272 subscriptions compared to the end of April 2021.
With regard to analogue fixed-line subscriptions, which include prepaid and postpaid, their number decreased by the end of April 2022 by 8.4%, to reach 268,258 subscriptions, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The number of fixed-phone subscriptions connected to the Internet protocol technology reached 252,908 subscriptions during the same period, registering a slight increase of 3.2% compared to the end of April 2021.
Muscat ranked first in the number of analogue fixed telephone lines with a rate of 57.47% at the end of April 2022, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate in second place with 12.44%, while the Dhofar Governorate recorded 8.62%, and the percentage of lines in the rest of the governorates reached 21.47%.
The statistics indicated that the number of integrated services digital network channel line subscriptions increased by 2.5% at the end of April 2022 to reach 49,185 compared to the same period last year.
The number of fixed wireless subscriptions decreased by 14.4% at the end of April 2022 to reach 1,120. In comparison to April 2021, the number of public phones stabilized at 6,801.
