The latest official data released by the National Center for Statistics & information (NCSI) about Consumer Price Index (CPI), showed that the inflation rate in the Sultanate fell by 1.37% in February 2021 compared to the same month of 2020.
According to the report, the inflation rate in the month of February 2021 fall also by 0.13% compared to January 2021.
In contrast, the Food and Non-Alcoholic beverages group fall by 1.18%, Clothing & Footwear group by 0.18%, Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routing Household Maintenance group by 0.09%, Restaurants and Hotels by 0.07%, Communication group by 0.01%.
On the other hand, the prices of Transportation groups increased by 0.82%, and the group of Miscellaneous goods and services by 0.14%, while the prices of the Tobacco group, the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group, the Health group, the Recreation and Culture group, and the Education group were stable.
The price index in February 2021 compared to the same month of 2020 is due to the decrease in the prices of the main groups such as the Transportation group by 5.0%, the Food and non-alcoholic beverages group by 1.47%, the Clothing and Footwear group by 1.15%, the Restaurants and Hotels group by 0.44%, as well as the Communications group, at a rate of 0.04%.
In contrast, the prices of the group of Miscellaneous goods and services increased by 1.32%, the Recreation and culture group by 0.80%, the Education group by 0.08%, the Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels group by 0.05%, as well as the group of Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routing Household Maintenance group by 0.01%. When inflation stabilized during February 2021, without change in the Tobacco and Health groups.
According to data from the National Center for Statistics and Information, compared to the same period in 2020, the decrease in the commodity price index in the Food and non-alcoholic beverages group came because of a 13.54% decline in vegetable prices, it also decreased the prices of Fish and seafood by 3.10%, Fruits by 2.47%, Milk, Cheese and Eggs by 0.68% and Meat by 0.07%.
On the other hand, the prices of Non-alcoholic beverages drinks increased by 5.54%, and the prices of Oils and Fats increased by 1.48%, followed by the price of other Food Products by 0.39%, Bread and Cereals by 0.37%, and Sugar, Jam, Honey and Confectionary by 0.21%.
