Within the Sultanate's endeavors to highlight its role in bringing together Arab culture and foreign cultures and civilizational convergence between peoples, leading to a constructive civilized dialogue in order to reach a contemporary global society living in peace and guided by mutual understanding and tolerance, the National Centre for Statistics and Information issued (Culture is participation and spread), which comes within a series of publications. The Centre for Cultural Statistics, but it is considered the first in terms of using concepts and terminology in accordance with the UNESCO Framework for Cultural Statistics 2009, with classifications that include important areas in the natural and cultural heritage and other related fields.
The importance of this publication stems from the fact that it gives statistical and informational inference evidence serving planners and those interested in cultural aspects that include a variety of religious, material, intellectual and emotional peculiarities that characterize a particular community or group, and not only include art and literature, but also patterns of life, ways of coexistence, value systems and traditions. Beliefs and what these aspects play are of paramount importance in people's lives and their role in development.
In the field of cultural and natural heritage, the statistics included in the publication show that the number of museums in the Sultanate increased from 10 museums in 2015 to 12 museums in 2019, while the number of visitors during that period increased by 68.5% to reach by the end of 2019 to 408 thousand and 40 visitors 78% concentrated in 3 museums are the National Museum, the Zubair Museum and the Land of Frankincense Museum. The number of museums employees increased during the same period by 25.6% to reach 186 workers.
The number of visitors to the 51 castles and forts increased by 71.2% between 2015 and 2019, reaching 426,525 in 2019, while the total number of employees reached 110 workers.
In addition, the number of visitors to the natural and cultural landscapes, which numbered 330, reached a thousand and 523, and with regard to performing arts, the number of theaters in 2019 reached about 13 theaters, while the number of theatrical performances increased from 17 in 2015 to 132 in 2019, as was reflected in the number of groups. The play, which rose from 35 theater groups in 2015 to 101 in 2019, and theater attendance numbers also more than doubled, despite a decrease in the number of theater seats by 21.3%.
With regard to visual arts and handicrafts, the number of paintings and drawings displayed in 2019 amounted to about 1,291 paintings, while the number of participating artists reached 507 and 16,500 visitors.
In photography, the number of photography shops increased from 416 in 2015 to 459 in 2019.
In crafts, the number of shops selling and trading handicrafts increased by 94% to reach 348 shops, despite a decrease in workshops for craft products by 21.6% to reach 29 workshops, while the number of employees increased by 34% to reach 23,591 workers.
The number of books published between 2015 and 2019 increased by 52.7% to reach 767 books, while the number of local books translated into other languages reached 8 books, and foreign books translated into Arabic were 8 books. The number of public libraries increased by 19% to 31 libraries.
With regard to audiovisual media and interactive media, the number of national satellite television channels (governmental and private) reached 5 channels in addition to 11 radio (governmental, private and official), and the number of companies providing Internet service reached 5 companies, while the value of the Sultanate's imports of electronic games increased by 293 .
In the design and creativity services, the number of fashion design and showrooms reached 25 houses with 63 workers, while the number of graphic design shops increased to reach 814 stores with two thousand and 9 workers.
The number of establishments operating in the field of interior design and decoration reached 3 thousand and 588 establishments, which include 9 thousand and 815 workers, and the number of establishments specialized in urban design and cultural landscapes reached 380 establishments with 3 thousand and 440 workers.
With regard to spending on culture, statistics show that government spending on heritage and culture during the year 2019 amounted to 237 million and 111 thousand Omani riyals, accounting for 1.8% of the total spending, while the average monthly spending and consumption of the Omani family on culture and entertainment reached 10.599 Omani riyals, as the governorates of Muscat and the interior came in Introduction to the governorates of the Sultanate, with an average expenditure of 17,749 Omani Rials and 17,142 Omani Rials, respectively, according to the statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information.
Regarding culture variables, statistics showed that the number of graduates in the specializations of society and culture in 2019 reached 3 thousand and 381 graduates, of whom females accounted for 61%, while the number of admissions in these disciplines reached 3 thousand and 591 and enrolled 13 thousand and 818 students.
In addition, the number of graduates of creative arts majors reached 575 graduates, 233 were accepted, while the number of enrollments reached 2,281 students.
In the related fields, the number of mosques and mosques in the Sultanate during the year 2019 AD reached about 15,584 mosques and mosques, and the number of imams, muezzins and preachers reached 4,597.
The number of pilgrims from the Sultanate during the year 2019 reached about 14,300 pilgrims, and the number of Holy Qur'an schools reached 830 schools, including 16,236 students, 1,200 students, and 237 teachers.
With regard to tourism, the number of hotels and hotel apartments rose between 2015 and 2019 by 54.4%, bringing the number of guests in the total number of hotels and hotel apartments to furnish by 43%. The number of sports federations reached 12, and 44 sports clubs.
