The NCSI, represented by the Directorate General of National Spatial Data Infrastructure, participated in the Geographical Information system Day (GIS DAY) organized by the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Research Centre (RSGIS) at Sultan Qaboos University on Wednesday 13th November 2019.

NCSI's participation in this event comes within the framework of the center's keenness in cooperating with entities interested in geospatial technologies as well as notifying other organizations on the spatial applications offered by NCSI and the services provided by the National Geographic Information Portal.

The Directorate General of National Spatial Data Infrastructure presented the benefits and services related to the unified government agreement for GIS programs that allow government entities and companies in the Sultanate to obtain the necessary licenses for GIS programs and upgrade its software to the latest versions being used in more than 104 government entities.

The GIS has a major role in the automation of actions of various government sectors, in addition to its role in the right decision-making process, which is based on spatial analysis that leads to sound planning, improving return on investment and achieving sustainable development.

In this regard, the national geographic information structure provides the decision-makers with an easy mechanism for using geographic data and tools for spatial analysis, in order to understand the issues at hand, to easily identify available geographic data and to improve the quality of government services.
