The Sultanate of Oman will participate in the celebrations of World Post Day, which falls on October 9. It is being held as an anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland.
According to statistics from the National Centre for Statistics and Information, a total of 8,377,808 postal items were registered in 2018. The total number of internal mail items in 2018 reached 7,226,428 messages.
The vast majority of internal mail items were exclusively fare Postege Paid Letters reaching 7,052,096. The number of registered Letters was around 70,000, EMS Letters reached 14,842, and the number of Mail parcels reached 9,116. There were 68,915 government Transactions and 11,827 private Mail bags.
Meanwhile statistics indicate that the total external mail messages reached 1,151,380 of which 203,260 were outgoing Letters, while the Number Of incoming Letters reached 948,120 the outgoing letters were distributed to the registered letters, around 89,000, and the total number of postage paid letters was 73,253. There were 25,475 EMS letters, 15,880 parcels and 96 Business Correspondence of Replies. The number of letters received were distributed to EMS Letters was estimated at 41,465, while the number of mail parcels received was 21,904 packages, and the number of registered mails was 885.
The statistics showed that the number of post offices by Governorates the Sultanate in 2018 reached 83, while the number of postal boxes reached 72,629. There were 119 letter depositing boxes and one Mail Distribution Agency.
