The (NCSI) received a number of students from Um Kalthom Bint Uqba School for Basic Education on Monday December 10, 2018. During their visit, the students were briefed on the role of the centre in the promotion of information with geographical dimension from just statistics to the higher level of knowledge.
The students also saw a visual presentation on "Who We Are," which introduced the importance of NCSI for planners and decision-makers for providing reliable and correct data. The centre is also meeting the needs of the state for official statistics and reliable information for use in policy and program development at the national, regional and international levels. The presentation highlighted information services provided by the NCSI to all segments of society. It analyses and disseminates indicators and statistical data of various economic and social sectors, in accordance with international standards of statistical and information works. It also showed that the NCSI gave importance to diversification of means and methods for providing information to different sectors of the society; from decision makers, government institutions, and private sector to other groups of society. In addition to this, a visual presentation was also made for the students to inform them about the mechanisms of census of population and the work of periodic indicators, as well as the project of e-Census of Population, Housing and Establishments for 2020, which is being implemented by the NCSI as one of the promising projects.
The students also toured the premises of the NCSI and understood about the work mechanisms used for public opinion surveys by contacting the decided sample. The students also witnessed the library of the center, its divisions, as well as its archive of information which they could use during their university education. Through a simple explanation, students got the opportunity to learn about some of the applications, which the NCSI has provided on smart phones to get access to statistical indicators, spatial statistical information and a tour of Oman.
