The Centre provided visual presentations at Sohar University on Tuesday December 4, 2018, to introduce the center's work mechanism and its role in providing data and indicators. The centre is also making efforts to dissolve statistical informational among various institutions and all segments of the society.
Sameh Bin Said Al Araimi, Director of Spatial Statistical Application Department, gave a visual presentation on "Who We Are" as an introduction of NCSI and its role of providing reliable and correct data to planners and decision-makers.
The presentation dealt with many topics, including NCSI's functions and responsibilities and its information services which is meant for all groups of society. The centre analyzes the information and data it collects and publishes indicators on various economic and social sectors. All this is done according to the international standards of statistical and information.
The presentation also highlighted the importance of the NCSI in dissemination information of diverse means among various segments of the society, including decision makers, government institutions and private sector.
The presentation also deal with the mechanisms used by NCSI to provide information in successful partnership with the local and foreign media, which covers all the activities carried out by the NCSI or activities participating by it. In addition to this, it also publishes periodic reports, data and information. It also uses social networking sites to disseminate information. It is also available on WhatsApp and has strong presence on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. The NCSI is also expanding its production activities and focusing on broadcast of audio and visual materials to spread the culture of information.
Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Mayahi and Said Bin Salim Al Zakwani from the DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF NATIONAL SPATIAL DATA INFRASTRUCTURE (NSDI) provided a visual presentation titled "From data to service". This presentation deal with the concept of the National Structure for Geographic Information, which is based on the idea of sharing and exchange of geographic information among its members. The service uploads geospatial data according to the requirements of national geographic database and data ownership.
The presentation also focused on the unified national baseline map launched by the NCSI for governmental, semi-governmental, private sector and various sectors of the society. It also discussed the open spatial data, which contributes to reducing the cost of developing geographic applications of some small and medium enterprises by about 40%.
The presentation also highlighted NCSI's experience in smart phone applications, such as Tour of Oman, which provides information about tourist and archaeological sites and services in Oman, as well as the Banki and Waqudi, which gives the users access to top banking services and car services based on geographic information.
