The Sultanate's total electricity production until the end of August 2018 stood at 25,673.8 GW per hour compared to the end of the same month in 2017, which saw a total production of 25,091.6 GW per hour. Water production increased by 5.4% to reach 277.7 million cubic meters compared to 263.5 million cubic meters in the same period in 2017, according to statistics released by the (NCSI).
The total electricity production in the provinces of Al Batinah and Adh-Dhahira provinces reached 13,514.5 GW per hour, recording an average increase of 2.6% over the same period in 2017, when the production was 13,176.8 GW per hour. The governorate of the Ash-Sharqiah posted a 0.6% rise in total electricity production to reach 5,683.8 GW per hour compared to an output of 5,650 GW last year. The total electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat rose by 6% during the eight-month period this year to reach 2,689.9 GW per hour compared to 2,538.1 GW during the same period in 2017.
In Dhofar, the total electricity production fell by 4.8% until the end of August 2018 to reach 2,361.1 GW per hour compared to the end of August 2017, when it was 2,478.8 GW per hour. The total electricity production in Ad Dakhliyah was recorded at 813.0 GW per hour, which is an increase of 9.5% compared to 742.2 GW at the end of August 2017. In Al Wusta, the total electricity production increased by 29% during the eight-month period this year, reaching 312.3 GW per hour against 242.1 GW per hour in 2017, the data revealed. Total electricity production in the Governorate of Musandam also increased by 13.5% till the end of August 2018, reaching 299.3 GW per hour compared to the end of August last year, when it amounted to 263.6 GW per hour. The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC) from local power generating entities, as well as output from auto-generators and diesel rental units. The Sultanate's net electricity production during the first eight months of 2018 witnessed a rise of 3.3% to touch 25,549.3 GW per hour compared to 24,744.70 GW per hour achieved during the prior year period.
As per the NCSI data, Al-Batinah and Adh-Dhahira topped the list of governorates with the highest net electricity production, reaching 13,405.6 GW per hour from 13,015.5 GW per hour in 2017. Ash-Sharqiah ranked second, recording a rise by 0.7% to reach 5,680 GW per hour by end of August 2018 compared to 5,639.7 GW in 2017. The net electricity production in Muscat was at 2,705.8 GW per hour, an increase of 10.2% compared to the end of August last year, which saw the net production at 2,454.3 GW per hour. Dhofar recorded a net electricity production of 2,253.0 GW per hour in the first eight months of 2018, down 5% compared to the same period in 2017, when it was 2,370.7 GW per hour, whereas Ad Dakhliyah's net electricity production rose by 9.6% to 807.7 GW against 737.0 GW per hour in 2017. The net electricity production in Al Wusta rose by 47.9% to reach 406.6 GW per hour compared to 274.9 GW per hour in 2017. An increase in net electricity production by 15.1% was recorded in Musandam at the end of August 2018 to reach 290.6 GW per hour against 252.5 GW recorded in 2017. On the other hand, the water production of the Sultanate reached 277.70 million cubic meters, an increase of 5.4% from the end of August 2017, when it was 263.57 million cubic meters, the data revealed. In Muscat, the water production grew by 5.6% to reach 123.79 million cubic meters compared to 117.27 million cubic meters at the end of August 2017. Water production also rose in the Governorate of Dhofar by 4.3% until the end of August 2018 to reach 36.3 million cubic meters compared to the end of August 2017, when the production was 34.86 million cubic meters.
The total water production of other governorates at the end of July 2018 was 117.54 million cubic meters, a rise of 5.5% from the end of August 2017, when the production reached 111.43 million cubic meters.
