The Centre received a delegation of General Authority for Statistics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on October 10. The delegation was briefed about the centre's experience in statistical work and its role in providing reliable information and the data associated with the geographical dimension for the decision makers in the Sultanate.
The delegation was acquainted with the functions and expertise of the NCSI and the information services it provides after analyzing and publishing indicators and statistical data of various economic and social sectors according to the international standards. It has several methods of providing information to various segments of the society, including decision makers, government organizations and private sector.
The delegation was also informed about the e-census project for population, housing and enterprises 2020, which is being implemented by the NCSI. It is one of the most promising projects. The delegation was briefed about the ongoing work in the project and its various stages. The members of the Saudi delegation were also briefed about the opinion polls conducted by the NCSI, its methodology of work and some of the important opinion polls it has carried out, particularly consumer confidence survey, and how its sample was chosen, its mechanism of conducting the survey and the methodology used to calculate the consumer confidence index in the Sultanate.
Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al-Blaihed, Director of Statistical Development in the Department of Innovation and Development in the Saudi General Authority for Statistics, thanked the NCSI for welcoming them and giving an opportunity for this enriching visit, which helped the delegation to learn about Oman's experience in the area and exchange of information and experience between the General Authority For statistics of Saudi Arabia and NCSI. He expected further cooperation between the two Saudi and Omani statistics and information institutions. He also appreciated NCSI's efforts for promoting information about the Sultanate and supporting decision makers with reliable information. He said that the Saudi authority was also working on similar projects to link data and provide information analysis to decision makers.
The program included a tour of Al-Ma'rifah Studio, which was equipped with latest recording and broadcasting technology. It is an important addition to NCSI's efforts to promote information and disseminate data on diverse media platforms. The visiting delegation also toured the communication centre, which conducts public outreach for surveys and public opinion polls.
