The total value of fish landed from various fishing methods (Traditional, coastal, and commercial) reached OMR 159,726 thousand R.O by the end of March 2025, increase by 8%, compared to the same period in 2024, which recorded OMR 147,852 thousand R.O according to the preliminary statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The total quantity of fish landings also rose to 238,131 thousand tons by the end of March 2025, compared to 223,531 thousand tons during the same period of the previous year—an increase of 6.5%, reflecting a positive development in fish production across the Sultanate.
The total quantity of fish landed by traditional fishing by the end of March 2025, stood at 189,770 thousand tons by the end of March 2025—a decrease of 1.7% from the 193,054 thousand tons recorded at the end of March 2024.
The Al Wusta Governorate recorded the highest quantity of artisanal fish landings with 78,215 thousand tons, followed by Ash- Sharqiyah South Governorate with 54,348 thousand tons, and Dhofar Governorate with 24,487 thousand tons. Meanwhile, North and South Al Batinah Governorate reported 15,927 thousand tons, Musandam Governorate recorded 8,755 thousand tons, and Muscat Governorate reported 8,038 thousand tons.
NCSI statistics also showed that the Commercial fishing witnessed a substantial surge, with landings increasing to 43,677 thousand tons by the end of March 2025, compared to 27,240 thousand tons in the same period of 2024—a significant growth of 60.3%. Additionally, coastal fishing grew by 44.7%, reaching 4,684 thousand tons, compared to 3,237 thousand tons by the end of March 2024.
Among the types of fish landed through artisanal fishing, small pelagic fish topped the list with 95,275 thousand tons, followed by large pelagic fish with 60,465 thousand tons, and demersal fish with 27,522 thousand tons.
The quantity of sharks and rays reached 1,426 thousand tons, while crustaceans and mollusks amounted to 930 thousand tons, and other unclassified fish species totaled 4,152 thousand tons.
