The Sultanate, represented by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), participated in a high-level Webinar of the regional workshop on Covid-19, the Information and Statistics Systems in the Middle East and North Africa, organized by the World Bank on September 14, 2020.
The workshop aims to enhance the process of exchanging experiences in the field of statistical and analytical transformation within and outside the region, launch the Middle East and North Africa Statistics Network, as well as launch the Credit Fund of statistical transformation.
The workshop, which was attended by Yousuf bin Mohammed bin Thani AL-Riyami Director General of Population and Social Statistics on behalf of NCSI and moderated by the Bank's Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, focused on assessing the response to the Covid-19 pandemic across the world.
The workshop also highlighted the methods to strengthen information and statistics systems to build resilience by bringing together specialists and practitioners in the field of epidemics science, information systems and statistics, in order to explore the extent of transparency, levels of flow of information, and statistical production processes in the aftermath of Covid-19, (such as the contact tracing, mobile surveys, and the increase in use of information and communication technology systems) to stimulate the transformation of the statistical and informatics systems.
