The Sultanate's Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation declined by 1.34% in August 2020 compared to the same month of 2019, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) on consumer price index.
According to the report, the inflation rate in the month of August rose by 0.13% compared to July 2020.
The food and non-alcoholic beverages group witnessed a price rise by 0.40%; health by 0.29%; and education by 2.21%. The prices of furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance also rose by 0.23%.
However, the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels fell by 0.42%; communication by 0.02%; miscellaneous goods and services by 1%; and restaurants and hotels by 0.32% in August 2020 compared to the same month of 2019.
Meanwhile, among foods and non-alcoholic beverages category, a marked rise was witnessed in the price of fruit; vegetables; and meat by 1.98%; 2.72%; and 1.49, respectively. However, the price of bread and cereals; fish and seafood; and milk, cheese and eggs fell by 0.08%; 4.93% and 0.49%, respectively. Non-alcoholic beverages registered a price rise of 0.21%.
