The total number of vehicles registered by their colors, engine capacity and weights in April 2020 reached 1.53 million, according to a recent update from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Among colors, white was the most preferred color for vehicles in the Sultanate, with as many as 661,170 vehicles sporting white color. Silver was the second choice, with 196,333 of the total vehicles painted in silver color. Gray is the third most prominent vehicle color, with about 116,073 vehicles. This was followed by blue, black, gold and red-colored vehicles with 87,377; 73,883; and 71,219; and 65,638, respectively.
As for engine capacity, the NCSI report indicated that the majority of vehicles (818,127) had engine capacities between 1500 and 3000 cc, while 345,486 vehicles had engine capacities between 3001 and 4500 cc. The number of vehicles with engine capacity above 4500 cc stood at 196,930. There were 119,098vehicles with engine capacity less than 1500 cc. About 52,089 vehicles functioned without engines as they were designed and manufactured to be towed by another vehicle.
In terms of weights, the report stated that majority of vehicles weighed less than 3 tons, with their number reaching 1.38 million. There were 71,764 vehicles that were more than 10 tons in weight. About 45,405 vehicles weighed from 3 to 7 tons and 38,118 vehicles from 7 to 10 tons.
The total number of vehicles by registered type until the end of April 2020 was 1.53 million vehicles, which is a rise of 1.4% compared to the same period of 2019. Private vehicles topped the list of vehicles registered, with 1.20 million vehicles, followed by 241,645 commercial vehicles and 30,912 taxis.
Meanwhile there was a drop in the number of commercial vehicles, taxis, government and temporary vehicles registered by 1.5%, 9.4%, 0.6% and 12.3 respectively.
