The main objectives of the survey on traffic safety in general are to assess the following:
· The extent of satisfaction with the traffic situation in the different governorates, at different times, and the identification of the causes of traffic congestion problems, if any, and proposals to solve them.
· Knowledge and compliance with certain rules and traffic laws, such as wearing seatbelts, compliance with legal speed limits, non-use of the phone while driving, etc.
· Commitment to periodic vehicles maintenance.
· Traffic accidents: causes and prevalence.
. The prevalence of some motorists’ misconduct such as: illegal takeover, exceeding speed limit, inadequate safety distance, use of the phone while driving, reversing traffic directions, etc.
· Satisfaction with the efforts of traffic safety authorities to achieve road safety.
The survey data were collected during the period 13-31 December 2015 through telephone interviews (fixed telephone and mobile) with Omanis and expatriates. The interviews were conducted in three different languages: Arabic, English and Urdu.
The sample size was 2531 respondents (1928 Omanis and 603 expatriates) with age group (18 years and above) from all the governorates of the Sultanate, with different educational levels, age and gender groups.
