The Sultanate's total electricity production until the end of October 2019 rose by 2.7% to reach 33,452.6 GW per hour compared to the end of the same month of 2018, when the total production was 32,581.1 GW per hour.
Meanwhile, water production till the end of September 2019 increased by 6.2% to reach 333.4 million cubic meters compared to 313.9 million cubic meters in the same period in 2018, according to statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The total electricity production in the provinces of Al Batinah and Adh-Dhahirah provinces reached 20,098.4 GW per hour at the end of October 2019, recording an average increase of 19% over the same period in 2018, when the production was 16,895.6 GW per hour. The total electricity production in Ash-Sharqiah reached 7,145.2 GW per hour compared to an output of 7,612.7 GW last year, recording a drop of 6.1%. Total electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar also increased by 6.9% by the end of the 10-month period of 2019, reaching 3,239.8 GW per hour compared to 2018, when it amounted to 3,029.5 GW per hour. The governorate of Al Wusta also recorded a rise in total electricity production by 43.9%. Meanwhile, the total electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat fell by 58.3% till the end of October 2019 to reach 1,366.1 GW per hour compared to 3,272.5 GW during the same period of 2018. In Ad-Dakhliyah, the total electricity production fell by 28.5% until the end of October 2019 to reach 765.1 GW per hour compared to 2018, when it was 1,070.3 GW per hour.
The net figures are inclusive of purchases by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC) from local power generating entities, as well as output from auto-generators and diesel rental units. The Sultanate's net electricity production till the end of October 2019 witnessed a rise of 1.8% to touch 32,895.1 GW per hour compared to 32,308.3 GW per hour achieved during the prior year period. As per the NCSI data, Al-Batinah and Adh-Dhahirah topped the list of governorates with the highest net electricity production, reaching 19,760.7 GW per hour from 16,771.5 GW per hour in 2018. Ash-Sharqiah ranked second, reaching 7,075 GW per hour by end of October 2019 compared to 7,606 GW in 2018. An increase in net electricity production was also recorded in Dhofar and Al Wusta by 8.2% and 9.9%, respectively.However, Muscat, Ad-Dakhliyah recorded a drop of in the net electricity production by 57.9% and 29.1% to reach 1,338.8 GW per hour and 754.1 GW per hour, respectively.
On the other hand, the water production of the Sultanate reached 333.4 million cubic meters till the end of September 2019, an increase of 6.2% from the end of September 2018, when it was 313.9 million cubic meters, the data revealed. In Muscat, the water production rose by 5.7% to reach 147.4 million cubic meters in the 10-month period of 2019 compared to 139.4 million cubic meters in 2018. Water production also rose in the Governorate of Dhofar by 8.4% to reach 45.07 million cubic meters in 2019 compared to 2018, when the production was 41.56 million cubic meters.
The total water production of other governorates at the end of September 2019 was 140.9 million cubic meters, a rise of 6% from the end of September 2018, when the production reached 132.9 million cubic meters.
