Electricity generation in the Sultanate declined by 5.4 per cent to 2,016.5 gigawatt hour (GW/H) in January 2018, over the same period of last year.
However, water production for 2017 rose by 5.5 per cent to more than 398.53 million cubic meters, over the previous year, shows the latest monthly statistical bulletin released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Giving details of Governorate-wise break-up, the NCSI report noted that Muscat governorate witnessed a whopping 53.9 per cent growth in electricity generation at 224.7 GW/H.
However, power generation in Dhofar and Musandam governorates showed a decline of 7.3 per cent and 3 per cent at 214.1 GW/H and 16.1 GW/H, respectively.
In addition, Ad-Dakhliyah produced 52.1 per cent more electricity at 65.6 GW/H, while Al-Batinah (north and south) and Ad-Dhahirah together generated 1,280.9 GW/H electricity, indicating a year-on-year growth of 3 per cent.
However, there was a substantial decline in electricity generation in Ash-Sharqiah Governorate with the power generation plunging by 55.9 per cent to 188.9 GW/H in January, compared to the same period of previous year.
But there was a robust 9.3 per cent growth in electricity generation in Al Wusta region in January 2018, compared to the same period of last year, shows the NCSI monthly report. Net electricity production in the Sultanate fell by 6.8 per cent in January 2018 to 1,916.70 GW/H.
As far as water production for different Governorates are concerned, water generation in Muscat witnessed a 4.8 per cent year-on-year growth in 2017 at 178.88 million cubic meters.
Similarly, water production in Dhofar Governorate was higher by 5.1 per cent to 398.53 million cubic meters in 2017, over the previous year. The combined water production of all other governorates stood 5.1 per cent higher at 166.90 million cubic meters, shows the NCSI report.
