The National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has been awarded the Arab Eagle Award for the Best Smart Application in the Arab Region. The Centre won the award presented by the Tajwijj Academy for its excellent application of statistical indicators. The Award was presented at a major function held in Dubai under the patronage of Secretary General of the Office of the UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Major General Nasser bin Salim Saif Al-Nuaimi, in the presence of officials, Arab personalities, representatives from government and private companies and media figures.
NCSI's smart applications provide the Sultanate's most important economic and social indicators, which are updated whenever new information is available so that researchers, decision makers and those concerned with indicators can access them easily. The users of the applications can compare the indicators at the governorate level, and can also help the Center to enhance indicators and information by inputting suggestions and comments. In addition, the Center's applications stand out for features that enhance creative thinking, participatory values, teamwork, employee empowerment at various levels, as well as the ability to achieve goals and meet challenges, invest in opportunities and anticipate the future. They are helpful in formulating and developing vision, mission and policies. The National Center for Statistics and Information has been able to take advantage of the geographic information systems technology to offer a number of applications such as the Tour of Oman, which includes more than 31 types of government and private services and information on tourist sites and monuments in all the governorates of the Sultanate, apart from easy access and navigation features.
The application has many functions and smart tools to facilitate the use and improve the response speed, such as search tools and tools for browsing data or maps and the option to participate in improving and enhancing the quality of data by adding sites, images and videos. The Center also provides an application for spatial statistical information, which includes digital maps and satellite images that assist the user in obtaining information about the location of buildings and population in the Sultanate. The Centre's data portal provides a single platform to browse the indicators and provides tools for analysis such as maps, dashboards and data exchange capabilities. The Center also developed applications for banks and fuel stations, allowing users to locate the nearest banking services available such as branches and ATMs as well as money exchange companies, as also nearest fuel stations and vehicle service stations. It is worth mentioning that the Arab Eagle Award aims to highlight the role of the local and central leadership in bringing about change and institutional development and to establish a role model to be followed in the execution of public work.
