The number of live births in the Sultanate in 2015 rose to 86,286 including 79,926 Omanis and 6,360 expatriate babies, compared to 82,981 babies in 2014. Omanis comprised 92.6% of the total births, with average of 10 live babies every hour while the number of death cases in 2015 stood at 8,167 according to latest figures issued by the (NCSI).
44,301 male births :
The NCSI statistics showed that there were 44,301 male births, including 3,259 expatriates, comprising 51.2% of the total expatriate births. The number of the Omani births increased by 32% during 2010 till 2015, comprising 19,225 births. The NCSI statistics pointed out that the highest fertility percentage recorded in the age category between 25 years to 29 years, comprising 33.2% in 2014 and 32.7% in 2015. The birth rate of high risk pregnancy age (more than 35 years) rose to 20.4% in 2015 compared to 1.2% in 2014.
At the governorates level, Governorate of Muscat and Governorate of North Al Batinah registered the highest number of births, comprising 42.6% of the total births while Governorate of Musandam and Governorate of Al Wusta recorded the lowest by 1.8%. Births among expatriates were the highest in Governorate of Muscat, comprising 54.6% while Governorates of Al Wusta and Musandam were the lowest by 1.4% compared to the other governorates.
The number of mortalities among the Omanis comprised 83.7% of the total deaths in the Sultanate, including 4,061 males, comprising 59.4% while the expatriates' mortalities comprised 16.3% of the total deaths in the Sultanate. Male expatriates comprised 82.3% of the total expatriate deaths in the Sultanate to stand at 101 deaths.
Rate in 2015 stood at 681 :
The monthly mortality rate in 2015 stood at 681 while the daily rate stood at 22 death cases, comprising an increase when compared to 2014, which stood at 652 death cases monthly and about 21.4 death cases daily. The Governorate of North Al Batinah recorded the highest in the number of the death cases in the Sultanate, comprising 23.3 of the total death cases, followed by the Governorate of Muscat by 17.2% while the Governorates of Musandam and Al Wusta witnessed the lowest in the number of death cases, comprising 2.2% of the total death cases. The Governorate of Muscat witnessed 43.6% of the total expatriate death cases in the Sultanate while the Governorate of Musandam comprised 1%.
