Oman recorded a 1.12% year-on-year rise in inflation in April, with the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels set registering a price increase of 1.02%, along with a 3.97% price hike in the transport set, according to the latest report by the (NCSI).
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices went up by 0.02%, while clothing and footwear rose by 0.22% in April compared with the same month last year. Furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance set prices rose by 0.26%, while health set recorded a hike of 1.44%. Communication saw a 0.22% fall in prices, whereas recreation and culture prices dropped by 0.31%. Prices of Restaurants and hotels set logged a rise of 0.25%, even as education turned costlier by 3.03% in April as against the same month last year. Tobacco prices went up by 0.43% during the period.
On a monthly basis, the Sultanate recorded a 0.76% rise in inflation in the month of April compared with figures for March, while average year-on-year inflation for the January-April period increased by 0.44% compared with last year. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels saw prices increase by 0.58% in April compared with the previous month, while food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.32%. Among the latter, Bread & Cereals prices went down by 0.89%, while fish and seafood declined by 6.96%. Meat, on the other hand logged a price rise of 0.02%.
Milk, cheese & eggs, and oils & fats prices fell 0.63% and 0.15% respectively in April. Vegetables and fruits however turned costlier by 8.13% and 2.61% respectively compared with March prices.
Sugar, Jam, Honey & Confectionary set logged a price rise of 0.30% while other food products fell by 0.12%. Non-alcoholic beverages set prices increased by 0.43%.
Tobacco prices went up by 0.04%, while Clothing & Footwear increased by 0.42%. Furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance set posted a price drop of 0.55%, while health turned costlier by 0.10%. Transport prices rose by 2.75%, while communication declined by 0.10%. Recreation & culture recorded a price fall of 0.08%. Education didn't record any price fluctuations. Restaurants and hotels prices went up by 0.04%. Other goods and services registered a price hike of 0.13% in April compared with March.
