The number of Omani nationals working in the private sector registered a marginal 0.2% increase in April compared with figures for March, says the latest bulletin published by the (NCSI). As of April, Omanis employed in the private sector numbered 210,074, as against 209,608 Omanis in the previous month.
Significantly, the report shows that as of April, females constituted less than a quarter of the total Omani workforce in the private sector, at 51,323. A great majority of Omanis employed in the private sector drew a salary of OMR 325-400. Their numbers logged a 2% drop to 62,577 in April, compared with March figures. In contrast, as many as 7,812 Omanis working in the private sector were entitled to a hefty salary of over 2000 rials, and their numbers rose by 6% in April, compared with the previous month.
The number of Omanis with a salary of OMR 400 to 500 posted a rise of 1.4% during the period to touch 48,767, even as the number of those earning OMR 500 to 600 fell 0.4% to 21,856. As many as 15,478 Omanis were paid a salary of OMR 600 to 700 in April, and their numbers increased 0.3% over March figures. Further, an increase of 0.1% was recorded in the number of nationals drawing a salary of OMR 700-800, with their numbers standing at 9,728.
Nationals employed with the private sector with a salary of OMR 800-900 and OMR 900-1000 registered a rise of 0.2% and 0.7% over the period to reach 6,946 and 5,422 respectively. The number of Omani employees salaried OMR 1000-2000 too rose 0.7% to 19,771 in April compared with March, the report says. Giving details of Omani employees in the private sector across the governorates, the NCSI report says that Al-Buraymi registered the highest growth rate of 1.3% in April, with 3,714 nationals working in the private sector, followed by Adh – Dhahirah where their numbers rose 1.0% to 9,472.
Muscat witnessed a drop of 0.1% in the number of nationals in the private sector at 70,783, while Dhofar registered a rise of 0.5% at 13,195 Omani employees during the March-April period. Musandam saw a fall of 0.6% in Omani workers at 1,145, while Ad-Dakhliyah reported a 0.8% rise in Omani workers at 24,799. The number of nationals working in private companies increased 0.2% to 38,786 in Al - Batinah North, while the increase was 0.7% in Al - Batinah South at 20,110 Omanis. Further, Ash - Sharqiah South logged a 0.5% fall in the number of Omani workers, which declined to 12,759 in April, while Ash - Sharqiah North posted a 0.2% rise taking the number of Omani workers to 12,991. Al - Wusta reported a 3.5% drop in the number of Omani workers at 1,394 in April compared with March.
