Oman's cultivated agriculture land in 2014 is estimated to be 164,000 acres, a marked decrease from the cultivated land area in 2000 which stood at 173,000 acres, says the statistical year book 2015. The cultivated land in 2013 was approximately 163,000 acres. However agricultural production registered a healthy growth. Giving details of the agricultural and veterinary services (provided to farmers by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries) and cultivated land areas, the report continues that agricultural production in 2014 increased to 1.51million ton from 1.21 million ton in 2000 and 1.25 million ton in 2013. In the year 2014, as much as 31,205 acres were used for cultivating 334,600 ton vegetables, while 404,400 ton fruits were produced from an area of 73,443 acres. Field crop production reached 22200 ton using 11530 acres of agricultural land. Also, 47781 acres were used to cultivate fodder crops that reached 753600 ton in 2014. Further, as of 2014, the Sultanate had eight agricultural research stations, and 76 agricultural development centres, the latter showing a significant leap in numbers from 50 development centres in the prior year. There were also 7 fruit nurseries in 2014. Also, a total of 1212 acres of extension fields were set up by the Ministry in various private farms. Al Batinah and Al Dhakhliya governorates had the largest extension fields at 335 and 334 acres respectively. Al Dhahirah had 177 acres of extension fields, while Muscat had 70 acres. Dhofar had 20 acres and Musandam 63 acres of extension fields, while Buraimi had 53 acres. Sharqiyah had 160 acres of extension fields set up in 2014. Meanwhile, during the year, 161692 kg fruit seedlings and 64700 kg seeds were distributed to farmers through agricultural development centres. Farmers in al Batinah governorate received the highest quantity of fruit seedlings at 53915 kg, while ad Dhakhliyah farmers received the major share of seeds distributed through development centres at 20600 kg.
